I have found the best way to avoid overdraft fees is to not use a debit card at all. If you use it, you will get caught sooner or later unless you have a significant balance in your account at all times. If you live from paycheck to paycheck as I do, the answer is to cut that card up and have an account at a bank close to home. Then go in there when you want money and don't have any electronic withdrawals from anyone. That puts an end to the problem. It's too bad, because when the bank is closed, it is inconvenient and this shouldn't be necessary, but until they changes their policies, this is the only answer.
