Bankruptcy Fears Add to Cancer Patients’ Woes

"Americans are one injury or illness away from bankruptcy," stated President Barack Obama in his healthcare plan talk to the nation last week (October 2009). The President added, "The crushing cost of healthcare causes a bankruptcy in America every 30 seconds."

Cancer is actually reported to be the #1 cause of all bankruptcy filings in the U.S.  Every three minutes someone in the nation is diagnosed with breast cancer. This is certainly a staggering statistic even without the adverse financial implications. With the addition of the ominous cloud of personal bankruptcy adding to an already untenable situation, the climate becomes one of abject despair.

As part of the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Celebration Week (October 24-31), one southeast Michigan bankruptcy law firm is set to announce that they will represent, for no fee, a local family touched by breast cancer who is also experiencing financial crisis.

The week-long event was implemented to “encourage lawyers across the country to honor those in the legal profession who provide free legal help to improve the lives of the needy.” (Information Reuters.com)  October also being national Breast Cancer Awareness Month further highlighted the plight of breast cancer patients and their families who are facing unprecedented debt. In addition to assisting families in need, the event will increase awareness of the importance of contracting an attorney when filing for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

If you are facing mounting medical bills, a consultation with an experienced bankruptcy lawyer from www.legalhelpers.com will give you the information necessary for you to get out of debt.
