Perspectives From The Nation's Largest Consumer Law Firm

Abuse Prevention Act locking out poor people

November 3rd, 2006

As a bankruptcy attorney, I am constantly aware of the fees that I charge. My clients are people who, in most cases, never thought they would be sitting in a bankruptcy attorney’s office discussing filing a chapter 7 bankruptcy or a chapter 13 debt reorganization plan. In many instances though, my clients have tried EVERYTHING to prevent their current situation. This is why the new laws upset me; well, more like the effects of the new laws.

There have been many articles written on the new laws that went into effect in October of 2005, but this article from MSNBC is probably the best written that I have seen in a long time.
